I have a love/hate relationship with winter, but really it’s mostly hate. Just when I thought Spring was ready to show up and stay, I was surrounded by snowflakes on my way to pick up my daughter from school. The officially start of Spring was last week, but winter is just not letting up. I really don’t like to complain, but it seems to be the never-ending winter and quite frankly I’ve had enough.
It’s been the winter of:
Frost Quakes – something I have never heard of until this year. (also known as Cryoseism)
The Polar Vortex – again, a term that was new to me, to me it’s kinda the opposite of a heat wave.
Flash freezes – never fun.
The Ice Storm – the name pretty much sums it up.
All stores being sold out of salt and all other forms of de-melting material – at one point we were using the salt that goes into our water softener!

I felt for the children and teachers that had no time outside for so many days. There was too many ridiculously cold days that the kids had to stay inside all day to only make them and myself go stir crazy. Most days we walk to and from school but this winter we drove way too often, but even the walk from the car to kids was brutal.
Needless to say, I am ready for some warmer days. I can not be alone in feeling this. It will be wonderful to see buds on trees and grass on the lawn instead of the ground being layer of ice, covered in snow. The snow banks are still so large at the end of the street that it’s hard to imagine them being gone anytime soon. I am looking forward to putting away the mitts, hats and winter coats! I am ready to say goodbye to winter.
I am looking forward to a Spring of:
The smell of worms after an April shower (April showers bring May flowers!)
The tulips and crocus’ to make their appearance.
Splashing in puddles with the kids – aren’t they just too cute in little rain coats and colourful rain boots!
Getting the trailer out storage and starting camping season
Warmer longer days

Mostly I love that it is the gateway season to Summer!! What do you love about Spring?
My husband reminds me almost daily, that eventually the sun always wins. Well, I for one would really appreciate the sun to win this battle sooner rather than later!
If you move out to the west coast, you’ll find the winter is a lot gentler 🙂
Some days it’s very tempting!
We have summer all year round! Wanna trade places??!!
